Gait Cycle |
The movement of the foot on the ground. There are three phases: Heel Strike, Mid Phase and Toe Off. |

The mould of the shoe. These vary enormously between manufacturers. |
Medial Post |
A firmer section of the midsole to support the foot and control overpronation. |
Midsole |
The shock absorbing part of the shoe made of a rubberised compound called EVA. |
Neutral |
A bio-mechanically efficient gait cycle. |
Outsole |
A very strong and durable rubber tread. |
Overpronation |
Excessive inward rolling of the foot in the mid phase of the gait cycle. Can expose the runner to a wide variety of injury problems. |
Pronation |
As the heel strikes the ground, weight is transferred from the outside of the foot to the inside. |
Supination |
Limited inward rolling of the foot during the Mid Phase of the gait cycle. |
